While planning what project to start next I asked my little one what she would like mummy to make, after thinking for a second she shouted “octopus”. So I got to work making her her very own octopus!
It’s safe to say she loves it and i love making it, its so easy and fun to do.
Notes
- This pattern uses US terms
- It’s best to use a stitch marker, removing it when you get to that stitch and replacing once you’ve done that stitch.
- I used an invisible decrease (click here to see a step by step on how) i find that when I use this stitch that my decreases are invisible and looks much neater.
Materials used

Pattern
HEAD
Round 1: 6 sc in magic circle [6 sts]
Round 2: (inc) x 6 [12 sts]
Round 3: (1 sc, inc) x 6 [18 sts]
Round 4: (2 sc, inc)x6 [24sts]
Round 5: (3 sc, inc) x 6 [30 sts]
Round 6 – 10: sc in each st – 5 rounds [30 sts]
Round 11: (3 sc, inv dec) [24 sts]
When you have finished this it’s time to add the eyes, add the safety eyes about half way up the work with about 6 sts in between.
Begin stuffing and continue stuff as the hole gets smaller, I like to stuff mine firmly so that the octopus keeps its shape.
Round 12: (inv dec) [12sts]
Round 13: (inv dec) [6 sts]
See the opening closed and weave in your ends.
Now you’ve done the body its time to move onto the tentacles
TENTACLES – MAKE 8
Round 1: Ch 2, 8sc into the 2nd Chain from hook, or Magic Ring 8 (8 Sc)
R 2: Chain 14
Round 3: 2 HDC into 2nd Chain from hook. 3HDC into all remaining Chains, back to the beginning of the Chain. Slip Stitch into the next Single Crochet stitch to anchor the tentacle.
The tentacles can be a bit loose after crocheting it up, if you twist it clockwise this will give it a boost
Repeat round 2 and 3 until you have 8 tentacles.
Once you have 8 tentacles, its time to put it together. Bind off your work leaving a long tail for sewing.
We need to sew the tentacles for the bottom of the body, i found it was the most secure if you sew right around the edge of the piece. Attach each tentacle separately.
I hope you enjoyed this pattern ❤️
